Jack James High School Partnership 6/15/2005
On Wednesday, June 15th Avi Amir, president and founder of Homes by AVi, hosted a year-end celebration at this year's Jack James home which has been transported from the Jack James school site to the SE community of Copperfield.
The Homes by Avi & Jack James School partnership evolved from a pilot project that began in 1998. The partnership was a direct result to the construction industry's concerns regarding the shortage of trained workers in all the construction-related trades. Avi understood from day one that there was no better way for students to master the skills necessary to succeed in the hme building industry, than to give them the opportunity to build a home. This hands-on learing environment allows students to be involved in all aspects of the construction process.
Once the home is completed on the school grounds, it is moved to its permanent location, sold, and the profits are re-invested back into the school partnership. During the last five years Homes by Avi & Jack James High School have only built bungalow homes, but this year we decided to build the first two storey home.
Homes by Avi's dedication to students has earned accolades, including the National RBC Partners in Education Award and various awards taht recognize models of excellence in business-education partnerships.
