Safety Awards Winners Announced 9/27/2005

Two leading Alberta builders have been chosen as winners in the first-ever CHBA - Alberta Safety Awards, which were presented at the association's conference in Jasper. Homes by AVI was the winner of the COR Award, while Maxima Homes was presented with the smaller builder or SECOR Award.

The awards, presented by ATCO Gas and ATCO Electric, recognized builders in two categories. One was for large builders, who are eligible to obtain their Certificate of Recognition (COR), and the second is for smaller builders who can receive their Small Employer Certificate of Recognition, or SECOR for short. It is meant for companies with ten employees or less, while COR is for organizations with more than ten employees.

CHBA - Alberta's Board of Directors wants all builder members to have their COR or SECOR by the end of next year.

About two dozen entries were received from across the province for the awards. A committee consisting of representatives of CHBA - Alberta, Alberta Construction Safety Association, and the Workers Compensation Board chose the finalists, based on pre-determined criteria. Points were awarded for builders who had obtained their COR or SECOR, or if they were working towards it, along with their lost time claims rate, and their leadership and service to the industry in safety promotion.
