Avi Named National SAMs Finalist 12/13/2003
Homes by Avi leads a parade of Calgary-area companies who again dominated an annual list of finalists honouring Canada’s top builders and developers.
Thirteen city companies and a Carstairs builder are finalists in this year’s National Sales and Marketing (SAM) Awards.
In all, 29 nominations have been claimed by members of the Calgary Region Home Builders Association.
Last year, local firms won a third of the categories in the awards, which are hosted by the 6,500-member Canadian Home Builders’ Association.
The winners for 2003 are to be announced during the group’s national conference Feb. 22 to 24 in Banff.
“To be named a SAM finalist and to receive recognition from your colleagues is a tremendous achievement, and something to be extremely proud of,” says CHBA president Jim Thomson in a news release. “The calibre of entries received from across Canada was outstanding this year.”
Of this year’s Calgary finalists — honoured in 14 of 21 categories — Homes by Avi racked up the highest total with five categories, three of which are architectural:
- Multi-family project four storeys or less, for the company’s Sanctuary Wood project in Garrison Woods.
From an architectural perspective, president Avi Amir says he’s the most proud of this project. “It’s nicelooking and very unique to the city.”
- Single-detached home over 2,200 square feet, for the the company’s Springbank model in the westside community of Wentworth;
- Single-detached home under 1,500 square feet for the Cartwright model in Edmonton’s Strathcona Village.
Homes by Avi is also a finalist for sales excellence, as well as for a marketing award for best print ad.
The sales excellence spot was earned by general sales manager Kathy Tuck when she was area sales manager for the company in Panorama.
“It’s always nice when one of your sales people gets recognized for the work they do,” says Amir.
Following Homes by Avi, with three nominations each, are Cardel Custom Homes, Albi Homes, Excel Homes, and developer Stone Creek Properties.
For the first time in its history, Carstairs-based Gold Seal Homes has been nominated for a national award, earning the honour for single detached custom home over 3,500 square feet.
“Pride is not a powerful enough word to describe our feeling regarding this nomination,” says president Murray Pound. “This selection is a wonderful reward for the work done by our staff and team of trades.”
Winners to be announced during the national conference in Banff include that of the top-place Grand SAM award.
It will honour the builder who best combines excellence in both the marketing and construction of a single project.
