Homes by Avi’s …“BE A FAN, BRING A CAN” 8/8/2008 10:48:35 AM

Calgary- July 31^st, 2008 - Homes by Avi is proud to announce their latest community fundraiser; the 18^th annual “Be a Fan, Bring a Can” food drive in support of the Calgary Inter-Faith Foodbank. Starting Saturday, August 9^th Homes by Avi will be collecting non-perishable food items at their head office and at all of their show home locations until Saturday, August 30th.  Your last opportunity to donate to this worthy cause is at the “Labour Day Classic” game between the Calgary Stampeders and Eskimos on Monday, September 1^st. This event is spearheaded by Stampeder coaches and player’s wives/girlfriends, who will be located at each of the entrance gates collecting non-perishable food items and cash donations. In 2007 the annual food drive raised an impressive $28,968.55 in cash and food donations raising the 17 year total to over $352,849 in cash and food donations.  About the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank: 

• 87,212 Calgarians came to the Calgary Food Bank last year.
• 43% of our clients are children.
• 43,194 litres of milk and 2,374 containers of infant formula were distributed through the Children’s Milk Program to almost 800 homes. 300 children a week received fresh milk through the Children’s Milk program.

• Through the Hampers for the Homeless Program, 12,368 food hampers were distributed to those living with inadequate housing.
• The Emergency Food Hamper Program distributed 33,148 food hampers (an average of 150 per day).

• For every $1 donated we access $4 worth of food.

• 80 - 100 people volunteer per day.
